Yes to Business Say-On-Pay!

As the House moves toward approval on Say-On-Pay Bill, the Democrats are expanding regulation power over the financial sector and millions of 401(k)s. Regulating above and beyond companies that have issued golden parachute packages to executives, GOP leaders are disturbed by federal intrusion into boardrooms. A Congress Daily article reported:
“Frank's fixes did not allay GOP lawmakers' concerns, especially regarding language that would require federal banking regulators to prohibit inappropriate or risky compensation practices as part of solvency regulation. That provision was not included in the Obama plan.
‘It is a major expansion of government when we have decided we will start approving the pay packages of companies,’ said Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, who offered an amendment to strike the language and replace it with a GAO study on executive compensation.”
Financial sector regulation can’t be one-size-fits-all. Different boardrooms have different concerns that must satisfy the needs and desires of different shareholders. Shareholder interests are best protected by allowing businesses to make their own decisions.
